I envy poeple who wake up with a smiley face and high energy levels. I both hate and admire their routine.

As a night owl, I can’t sleep before 1 am no matter how hard I try. For some reason, I get the best ideas in the middle of the night, so I end up working late at night on most days.

This dangerous habit can wreck your sleep cycle as it induces insomnia and lowers sleep quality. It will make you wake up in a horrendous mood from which you’ll need at least an hour to recover.

Fog will settle on your brain and you won’t be able to function in the morning. I suffered from brain fog for months and I can assure it absolutely destroyed my mornings.

So, if you are in the same boat that I once was, you need to find activities that will clear your brain instantly.

Here are the five habits I added to my daily schedule to reduce brain fog and boost productivity.

1. Super Charge Your Brain With Small Movement

Brain fog is a symptom of a stressful sleep-deprived life. It’ll decrease your productivity and your will to work.

It’ll sneak up on you and take over your morning under hostage. You’ll no longer be able to enjoy your first cup of coffee, you’ll just drown it like an addict getting his first hit of the day.

And coffee can’t save your morning, no matter how strong or dark you make it.

The easiest way you can improve your brain health and salvage your morning is through a short walk.

There are a lot of good habits but nothing beats movement in the morning. Exercise increases your brain volume which improves concentration and boosts memory.

Exercise is the best way to take care of your brain health. You only need to exercise for a few minutes to pump your brain with endorphins that increase the flow of blood in the brain and make you feel good instantly.

A 5-minute morning workout reduced my laziness, which was at an all-time high in the morning. It helps me think clearly and practice creativity without any constraints.

I have found that a short morning walk or a quick 5-minute HIIT workout is the easiest way to improve brain efficiency and productivity.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • Add movement to your morning by taking a short walk right after waking up.
  • Do a short yoga session for better posture and increased productivity.
  • Lunges, squats, and planks are the best bodyweight exercises for a quick workout.

2. This Popular Trend Might Be Hurting Your Brain

Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day but it’s losing its notoriety slowly but surely.

Intermittent fasting has been the go-to weight loss strategy for a few years now as it has been proven to reduce weight through calorie control. It is the first thing that everyone tries on the quest for weight loss.

But sadly it’s not for everyone. I can fast for 14 hours every day without any problem but one minute extra and my productivity tanks. My cognition slows down which leads to unclear thinking.

You need to find the fasting window that works for you because being hungry for an extended period of time can lead to brain fog.

So, make breakfast a priority and figure out the best time you should eat every morning. A healthy breakfast at the right time can save you from the clutches of brain fog.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • Make a nutritious breakfast your number one priority. Leafy greens and nuts are the best foods that can boost cognition instantly.
  • Try different fasting windows to find the one that works for you the best.
  • Have a healthy after-dinner snack to prevent hunger bouts at midnight.

3. A Hot Drink to Fade Away the Afternoon Slump

Brain fog is a common symptom of the afternoon slump. You feel sluggish because of a slight dip in your energy level. You lose your motivation and flow.

You gravitate towards coffee to lift up your brain fog in the afternoon as it’s the easiest and quickest way to get rid of the afternoon slump.

But caffeine consumption later in the day can lead to poor quality sleep which can make your afternoon slum worse. It’s a vicious cycle that we are all trapped in.

But I have recently found a caffeine-free cure for afternoon slumps that has improved my productivity levels.

A hot drink can lift up your spirits and restore your productivity instantly. I have tried many herbal teas but spearmint tea works best for me. It’s refreshing and tangy and it aids digestion as well.

The delicious aroma of mint will knock you out of the afternoon slump and wake you up instantly.

So, if you are looking for a caffeine-free energy booster then herbal teas are the way to go.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • Get an assorted herbal tea pack to try out different flavors to pick the one that works the best for you.
  • Pick an aromatic herbal tea like mint, rosemary, or lavender tea for better and faster results.

4. Slow Down Your Busy Day to Lift Up The Fog

A cup of tea helps to fade away the brain fog after lunch but the relief only lasts a few hours.

But there’s a brilliant 10-minute hack that can help you fix your afternoon slump indefinitely. A power nap after lunch is the sure-shot way to lift up the brain fog and speed up productivity.

It’s a zero-effort activity that you can do anytime easily. It’s a proven solution beat brain fog. A cat nap will boost your focus and improve productivity instantly.

But not everyone can fall asleep as soon as their head hit the pillow. If you can’t take a nap then just close your eyes for a few minutes and let your brain relax.

So, take 10 minutes out of your busy schedule to take a quick nap to reboot your brain. Even a six-minute nap can help you fade brain fog.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • Take a well-deserved break to rest your eyes after staring at a screen for hours. It’s okay if you don’t fall asleep, just rest.
  • Chant a short mantra like “Om” to release stress and boost productivity. Or practice mindfulness meditation by focusing on your breath.

5. The Only Morning Drink You Need for Better Brain

I used to be a coffee addict who couldn’t have a single sensible conversation in the morning without a cup of joe. It was tragic.

But then I started having acid reflux daily, so I had no choice but to change this habit. I replaced my morning cup of joe with a tall glass of water.

It sucked. I tried to make the water delicious by adding lemon and fancy herbs and spices to it, but I still hated it, even when it improved my digestion.

Then a week later I realized a drastic change in my energy levels and I was no longer tired in the morning and I had zero brain fog.

I was even able to do my tax return bright and early one day with utmost clarity without coffee, it was a miracle. This boring morning drink helped me improve my clarity and focus.

You wake up dehydrated which can lead to poor cognition and brain fog. 2% brain dehydration can cause brain fog and decrease mental clarity. Prolonged dehydration can shrink the size of your brain cells.

So, drink water as soon as you wake up to decrease brain fog and lethargy.

Here’s what you can do:-

  • Start your day with a glass of water daily. Lukewarm water is a better choice as it is easier to drink than cold water.
  • Add a few drops of lemon to improve your digestion.

Conclusion

Your morning determines the kind of day you’ll have. So, a bright energetic morning is the best way to ensure an uber-productive day.

I have improved my morning with these 5 simple habits. So, get rid of brain fog instantly with these small tweaks in your schedule.

  • Take a short nap after lunch for better productivity.
  • Drink a cup of herbal tea in the afternoon to boost your focus.
  • Start your day with a glass of water to beat dehydration.
  • Add a little movement to your morning to get rid of lethargy.
  • Eat a nutritious breakfast to decrease brain fog.
